So I was in Manhattan yesterday for an Infant/Child CPR class, but that's not what this post is about. While in Manhattan, I felt like stopping off at Best Buy and window shopping a bit. Luckily there was one right next door to the CPR class, so I didn't have to venture out of my way to get my technology fix.
I looked at GPS units (need a new one for the car), then to iPhone accessories (why not?) then spent some time brushing up on television technology. In shopping (or more appropriately "hoping") for a new TV (someday), I have formed the following strategy...
First we'll get a smaller, but still nice, HDTV...maybe 32" or an affordable 40". Then when the time comes, that one will retire to a den or bedroom and a bigger model will take center stage. Now, in browsing Best Buy yesterday, I tried to stick to the smaller models...but I think we all know that didn't last very long...because quite frankly, it's no fun! I soon found myself in a small room, with 3 large HDTVs all belonging to the Best Buy Magnolia collection...
Oh yes, they rule.
I found my future center stager. The Samsung 46B8500...
This thing has what they are calling Auto Motion Plus. Don't get too excited, because it's really not much more than a 240 Hz refresh rate. But at the same time, it turns out, THAT is some to get excited about.
I found myself stepping back across the room to compare this beauty to another (not much lesser) model, which were both playing a sequence from the end of Transformers (I'm sure you'll admit, a visually impressive movie)...well let me tell you - some of the shots in the movie we so incredibly clear! The say that the Auto Motion Plus makes you feel like you're in the shot...at which point I typically roll my eyes...but the longer I watched, and the more I compared, the better it got...this TV is the best I've seen yet. It is full HD, super high contrast, and super fast refresh rate...I can't wait to see what they have in store when I'm ready to buy.
Until then, I'll have to settle for a dinky 32".
